Satisfy one of the English Proficiency Requirements:

- GET (score ≥4.5)
- SCI 614 (Pass)

Register for Courses
Choose Thesis Advisor and Develop Research Project
- Faculty List
- Faculty Research pages
File Graduate Approved Program (GAP) form
- After one year in the program students should file a GAP form with the assistance of the thesis advisor.
File Proposal for Culminating Experience form
- The Culminating Experience Form should be signed by the entire thesis committee.

The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at SFSU uses American Chemical Society (ACS) subject exams in the following disciplines of chemistry: (click on test for description)

Our policy is to allow incoming graduate students to take any or all of these subject exams with the goal of passing three. In certain cases, students may be required to fulfill additional coursework to satisfy the M.S. degree.

Exams are twice per year, typically during the week prior to the beginning of fall and spring semesters.

Students should register in the appropriate courses. The list of course types for graduate students include:

CHEM 800-level elective courses
CHEM 880, 895, 898 core courses
CHEM 897 Research course
Lower division undergraduate courses if necessary
